Sea Kayaking, Orca Whale Watching & Birding - Departing From Friday Harbor &
Roche Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington

Looks like another BABY Orca Whale! L47 has been seen with a baby. Final counts for all our resident orcas not in yet. We will wait to hear from The Center For Whale Research. Stay tuned. July 6, 2005 J19's new calf is J41. Confirmed by the Center for Whale Reasearch, Ken Balcomb.

Three new orca babies, confirmed by the Center for Whale Research, boosts the Puget Sound orca population to 90 animals, continuing a favorable trend. (2 in L Pod 1 in J Pod)

July 20, 2005 Wednesday Today was a L-12 day. This is a sub group of the L pod. The 11:00, 1:00, 3:00 & 5:30 whale watching boat tours were all on the south end of San Juan Island today. As naturalist Derin put it, today they were just milling. No big breaches, not as active as our residents can be. Derin did see a harbor porpoise as the boat was passing the south end of Henry Island. With the whales so far south today, kayakers did not see whales, but did see lots of other wildlife.

July 19, 2005 Tuesday The 11:00, 1:00 & 3:00 whale watching tours all saw L-12's down on the south end of the island, mostly near Eagle Cove. The 5:30 Tour is with the whales now near the light house. It is the J pod and L-12's. From the sound of the guests, the whales were performing. Captain Peter Albert said the J's were doing quite a bit of breaching, tail lobbing and are in general, very active this evening.

Spring, summer and fall find magnificent orca whales plying the waters of the west side of San Juan Island, Washington. These whales are focused on finding the Pacific runs of salmon that come into Haro Strait mid-April to September. Our sighting rates are over 90%. We guarantee that you will see marine mammals and take home life-long memories. We also see soaring eagles, playful seals, impressive sea lions and seabirds to observe from our boats or kayaks.

Great boats, great scenery & wildlife viewing and great fun!!

The islands boast of sunny, warm days because we are in what is known as the "rain shadow", sometimes called the 'bannana belt'. While Seattle receives about 30 inches of rain annually, the islands receive about 18 inches. Usually summer days are in the 70's, but bring a jacket because it is always a bit cooler on the water.Weather links This mild climate makes it great for outdoor activities both on and off the water.

The island also offers plenty of hiking, biking, shopping and great eating. Island Activities

Dear Kate.
It is Naomi Kaneta(Japanese) who experienced 22th WHALE WATCH 23th KAYAK.
I am very indebted to Kate.
It became crazy because of the first kayak experience and it did.

I had taken charge of breeding of ORCA in the aquarim in Japan ten yearrs ago.
Though ORCA that swam in the pool was see....
It turned over and San Juan Island was chosen seeing swimming ORCA in nature once.
The body was able to be still spirited and the impression of the degree was done to the grandeur of ORCA of nature.
ORCA of the aquarium where I worked does't inculude ORCA fourthly and the death now last year.
Though ORCA of the aquarium is apoint that a lot of people should be able to be seen near themselves.
I still thought that nature was the best of ORCA of nature.

Thank you really San Juan Safaris Staff's.

Naomi Kaneta
